A Korean actor, who has battled leukemia twice, opened up about his emotional journey on KBS 2TV’s Happy Together – Glad I’m Not Alone.
On a recent episode of KBS 2TV’s entertainment program Happy Together – Glad I’m Not Alone, actor Choi Sung Won revealed the reasons behind his two breaks from acting after the tvN drama Reply 1988.
During the time he was gaining great love for his role as No Eul, he was diagnosed with acute leukemia and had to halt his activities. After recovering his health and returning, he sadly announced a relapse two years later.
Choi Sung Won confessed his feelings, saying, “After overcoming it once and then getting sick again, I wondered, ‘Is acting really my path? Is it trying to kill me?’ It was extremely painful to the point I couldn’t even stand properly.”
He also touched on his current status following a full recovery and showed his exceptional passion for acting.
Reflecting on his time battling illness, he said, “Even while in excruciating pain, I was analyzing the expressions of the people fighting in the hospital. It was then I realized, ‘I have to act.’” MC Jang Hang Jun expressed awe, saying, “When your body is struggling, you don’t think about work. That’s impressive.”
Most notably, Choi Sung Won shared the heartening news, “I’ve been declared fully recovered,” earning rounds of applause. His close friend Lim Chul Soo expressed deep affection, saying, “Hearing Sung Won’s full recovery was the happiest news I’ve ever received. I was so overwhelmed I danced on the street,” showing their strong bond.
