According to Japanese media outlets including Josei Seven on September 28, an argument between Sakaguchi Kentaro and his wife reportedly escalated late at night on September 17, prompting a call to Japan’s 110 emergency number and a police response at the actor’s home. The caller was reportedly Sakaguchi’s wife. His agency has not released a separate statement regarding the incident.
Earlier, on September 6, Sakaguchi surprised fans by announcing his marriage through his official paid fan club site, Info.S. He wrote, “I have married a non-celebrity woman whom I have been dating. I will continue to work even harder as an actor.”
His wife is reportedly a hair and makeup artist three years his senior who had previously been linked to him in reports about their alleged cohabitation and private life.
Sakaguchi made his debut as a model for fashion magazine Men’s Non-no in 2010 before establishing himself as one of Japan’s leading actors through dramas including Signal, Welcome Home, Monet, and the historical drama The 13 Lords of the Shogun. He also has a strong fan base in South Korea.
Sakaguchi is scheduled to return to television with Fuji TV drama Kidnap Game, which premieres on October 6. The series will also air in South Korea through Channel A.
