On September 2, a netizen raised the issue in a post titled “Girls’ Generation Unit HyoRiSoo MV Plagiarism Controversy.” The user compared several scenes from TTS’s “Twinkle” music video, released in 2012, with scenes from HyoRiSoo’s “Skibidi,” which was released on August 31, pointing out their similarities.
The similarities reportedly included the composition of members getting out of a vehicle while filming equipment is shown, as well as scenes of the members sitting or standing side by side while posing for the camera. The post ended with the remark, “I think they need to explain themselves,” prompting other netizens to respond with jokes such as, “I’d believe it even if you said they were the same group,” “The little details are hilarious,” and “If you’re unfairly accused, bring TTS out (please…).”
Earlier, on August 30, Girls’ Generation member Yuri held an “Ask Me Anything” session on her personal account, answering questions from followers and interacting with fans. When one follower brought up the project group HyoRiSoo, which Yuri recently formed with Hyoyeon and Sooyoung, they referenced TTS, the vocal unit formed in 2012, and asked, “Can HyoRiSoo beat TTS?” Yuri responded, “Why do we have to beat them?” She then posted a sweet photo with her bandmate Tiffany and chose trot singer Tae Jin-ah’s “Partner” as the background music.
Yuri also faced some less-than-friendly comments. Another user snapped, “You should know that HyoRiSoo’s positive response is limited to longtime fans. Take an objective look at yourselves and understand your level.” In response, Yuri posted a childhood photo of Choo Sarang accompanied by the phrase “scratch, scratch,” seemingly signaling that she was not taking the comment seriously.
HyoRiSoo is a project group that originated from the character “Fake Kim Hyoyeon” featured in Hyoyeon’s YouTube content Hyo’s Level Up. The group officially launched alongside the release of its single.
