Popular Korean YouTuber Malwang, who has 1.87 million subscribers, is back in the spotlight after comments he made about BLACKPINK several months ago resurfaced online.
On August 7, screenshots from one of Malwang’s YouTube videos began circulating across online communities and social media. The clips were taken from an April upload titled “The Hero Who Saved Malwang TV.”
During the video, Malwang explained that he considers himself a dedicated BLINK, BLACKPINK’s official fandom. “As many of you know, I’m a BLINK. I’ve been to three BLACKPINK concerts.” However, he admitted that his feelings about the group’s recent activities had changed. “It doesn’t feel like the same group anymore. They’re focusing much more on individual activities.” He added that fans who primarily love BLACKPINK as a group might find the current situation disappointing.

Malwang also shared his thoughts on BLACKPINK’s February title track, “GO.” Offering his personal opinion, he said: “To be honest, I think the new song feels like a mass-produced track designed for global commercial success.” His serious remark prompted a humorous response from the production staff, who joked: “Malwang TV has nothing to do with that statement.” The lighthearted disclaimer drew laughter from viewers.
Although the clip was originally viewed as a fan casually expressing his personal opinion, it has recently gone viral again amid criticism surrounding BLACKPINK’s upcoming 10th anniversary Meet & Greet.
Earlier this week, YG Entertainment announced that the anniversary event would take place on August 8 in Seoul, with attendance limited to 40 fans selected through a lottery for official membership holders. The announcement received criticism from some fans because it was made only two days before the event, while the application period lasted just nine hours. Some also questioned the event’s small scale given the significance of BLACKPINK’s decade-long career.

Additional confusion arose after YG initially stated that only members whose schedules permitted would attend the event. That wording fueled speculation that one or more members including Rosé might be absent after she was spotted in Los Angeles. However, THEBLACKLABEL quickly denied the rumors, explaining that Rosé had prioritized the anniversary celebration well in advance. YG Entertainment later confirmed that all four members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa will attend the Meet & Greet, putting the speculation to rest.
BLACKPINK renewed its contract with YG Entertainment for group activities in December 2023, while each member has continued managing solo careers through their respective agencies. Since then, the quartet has balanced individual music, acting, fashion, and global brand projects alongside BLACKPINK promotions.
In February 2026, the group made its long-awaited full-group comeback with the album DEADLINE, their first group release in approximately three years and five months, led by the title track “GO.”
While Malwang’s comments have resurfaced amid the ongoing discussion, they remain his personal opinion as a fan rather than any official assessment of the group’s activities.
