Only the iPhone 18 Pro Could Get BLACKPINK’s ROSÉ to Do This
BLACKPINK’s ROSÉ returns with New Trick, a bold pop-rock single whose entire music video was filmed on Apple’s new iPhone 18 Pro.
ROSÉ officially returned to the music scene with her new single New Trick, released on September 18. The song marks the singer’s first new music in nearly two years since the release of her debut solo album rosie.
While rosie presented a vulnerable ROSÉ immersed in deeply personal emotions and melancholic melodies, New Trick introduces a more daring side of the singer. The track immediately stands out with its gritty electric guitar sound and layers of stacked vocals, creating a more urgent and edgy atmosphere than the wistful tone that characterized much of rosie.
Combined with pounding drums and faster-paced production, the song transforms the pain of a breakup into a confident and liberating declaration. ROSÉ’s vocals move effortlessly between soft, melodic verses and explosive choruses, creating the feeling of joining an exhilarating anthem in the middle of a packed crowd.
New Trick also evokes the pop-rock sound that dominated Apple commercials during the 2000s, reminiscent of songs such as Jet’s Are You Gonna Be My Girl and CSS’s Music Is My Hot Hot Sex. That nostalgic influence is cleverly incorporated into the production, allowing the track to feel both fresh and familiar. Fueled by its punk-inspired energy, the song delivers an instantly addictive sound from its opening moments.
Interestingly, ROSÉ reportedly wrote the song shortly after her headline-making appearance on the Met Gala red carpet. The singer previously shared that around that time, she suddenly realized she could no longer connect emotionally with writing sad ballads the way she once had, despite having been almost “addicted” to creating sad songs for her debut studio album. That change in mindset ultimately pushed New Trick in a completely different direction, resulting in something brighter and more playful. ROSÉ even described it as potentially the “cutest” song she has ever created.

What has particularly caught the attention of both music and technology fans is that the entire music video was filmed using Apple’s newly launched iPhone 18 Pro. The project is part of the global Shot on iPhone campaign, following collaborations with major artists including Lady Gaga, Olivia Rodrigo, and The Weeknd. ROSÉ’s participation in the campaign further reflects her growing influence in the international market.
Notably, New Trick is not part of an album or EP. Instead, it is a standalone release connected to the advertising campaign, created during ROSÉ’s break following the success of her debut album. The singer has developed a reputation for being highly selective about brand collaborations, but when she does partner with a company, she tends to choose major names with significant global reach—and Apple is certainly one of them.
The New Trick music video was directed by Dave Meyers, the acclaimed filmmaker behind music videos for stars including Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, and Harry Styles. Meyers also previously directed BLACKPINK’s Jump music video, making his latest collaboration with ROSÉ another highly anticipated reunion.
The release represents another step forward in ROSÉ’s remarkable solo journey following the arrival of rosie in December 2024. Her smash hit APT., featuring Bruno Mars, previously reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking a major milestone in her solo career. Industry sources have also claimed that ROSÉ is preparing an entirely new solo album, reportedly targeted for release in 2027.

When it comes to ROSÉ, one of the first things that comes to mind is her instantly recognizable vocal tone in the fiercely competitive K-pop industry. She debuted with BLACKPINK on August 8, 2016, as the group’s main vocalist alongside Jisoo, Jennie, and Lisa. Together, the four members captivated audiences with massive hits including Whistle, DDU-DU DDU-DU, Kill This Love, and How You Like That, helping BLACKPINK become one of the most successful K-pop girl groups in history.
However, it was in 2019 that ROSÉ’s individual profile truly exploded on the global stage. That year, BLACKPINK became the first K-pop girl group to perform at Coachella. ROSÉ’s platinum-blonde hair unexpectedly became a sensation across social media during the festival, with images of the singer rapidly spreading across international platforms and dramatically boosting her recognition worldwide.
Another major turning point came at the end of 2023, when all four BLACKPINK members renewed their contracts with YG Entertainment for group activities but chose not to renew their individual contracts. ROSÉ subsequently pursued a more independent path, partnering with The Black Label in South Korea while expanding her international career through Atlantic Records.

Not long afterward, ROSÉ made music history by becoming the first K-pop artist to win at the BRIT Awards, one of the United Kingdom’s longest-running and most prestigious music awards. APT. earned her the International Song of the Year award, marking the first time a K-pop artist had claimed the honor.
In terms of chart performance, APT. became a global powerhouse, spending multiple weeks atop both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts. Its Top 10 performance on the Billboard Hot 100 also established ROSÉ as one of the highest-charting female K-pop soloists in the chart’s history. In South Korea, the song achieved a Perfect All-Kill by simultaneously topping all major domestic digital music charts. It also remained among the most-streamed songs of 2025 on platforms including Apple Music and Spotify, while its music video has surpassed 2.6 billion views on YouTube.
Despite the enormous success of APT., ROSÉ subsequently maintained a relatively low profile and did not release additional solo music for an extended period, leaving fans eagerly waiting for her next move. That lengthy silence has made her return with New Trick even more noteworthy, particularly as it arrives around the same period as comeback activities from BLACKPINK’s other three members.
