The Korean entertainment world has been buzzing with excitement after Netflix officially announced its upcoming project The Generals, boasting an unbelievably star-studded lineup.
The work brings together four top-tier actors known for both popularity and acting prowess: Son Seok Koo, Ha Jung Woo, Ji Chang Wook, and Hyun Bong Sik. Another notable addition is Seo Hyun Woo, who has previously impressed audiences in works like Decision to Leave, Flower of Evil, and Our Movie.

The Generals is reportedly based on a true story revolving around two former South Korean presidents. Set against the turbulent backdrop of modern Korean history, the work follows Roh Tae Woo, a lifelong second-in-command who carefully crafts the image of an “ordinary man” while operating under the shadow of the absolute leader Chun Doo Hwan.
As Chun Doo Hwan wields near-unlimited power, Roh Tae Woo navigates a complex web of allies, rivals, and political manipulators each driven by their own ambitions. Torn between loyalty and desire, he must maneuver through shifting dynamics and relationships while secretly plotting his rise to ultimate power.

The work is helmed by director Yoon Jong Bin, known for critically acclaimed films such as Nameless Gangster: Rules of Time and The Spy Gone North. With such a powerhouse team, it’s clear that this is a major investment for Netflix. Securing a cast of this caliber undoubtedly comes with an enormous price tag, raising questions about whether even a billion-won budget can fully cover their appearance fees.
Naturally, with such high stakes, the production team is expected to deliver a project worthy of its scale. Fans are already anticipating a high-quality work that matches the prestige of its cast.

Looking closer at the leading roles, Son Seok Koo takes on the challenging role of Roh Tae Woo. Given his performances in hits like Nine Puzzles, Heavenly Ever After, A Killer Paradox, D.P., and My Liberation Notes, audiences have every reason to trust his ability to carry such a demanding role.
Meanwhile, the role of the powerful leader Chun Doo Hwan is portrayed by Ha Jung Woo, widely regarded as one of Korea’s box office kings. With his extensive experience and proven acting skills, expectations are high for a compelling and nuanced performance.

Ji Chang Wook plays Heo Hak Seong, a rookie from the Korea Military Academy who is seen as a thorn in Roh Tae Woo’s side. Known for portraying morally upright characters with emotional depth, this role is expected to give Ji Chang Wook ample room to showcase his finest acting abilities.
Veteran actor Hyun Bong Sik takes on the role of Jung Ho Joong, a classmate of both Chun Doo Hwan and Roh Tae Woo. Meanwhile, Seo Hyun Woo plays Park Cheol Woong, a prosecutor at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office and a close aide to Roh Tae Woo.
