IU Moves On From Her Extreme Diet 5 Years Ago: “Two Eggs With Olive Oil Keep Me Full All Day”
IU reveals her current boiled egg and olive oil meal while revisiting the extreme diet she followed in her early 20s and warning fans against copying it.
“If I ate like that these days, I wouldn’t even be able to sing one song.”
Five years after distancing herself from the extreme diet she once followed, IU has revealed a new way of eating. This time, her meal consists of two boiled eggs drizzled with olive oil. When fans reacted with concern, IU instead recommended the combination, saying, “I don’t feel hungry all day.”
On September 20, IU attended stage greeting events at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall in Seoul for her concert films IU Concert: The Golden Hour and IU Concert: The Winning.
The event gave IU an opportunity to meet her fan club, UAENA, in person as she celebrated the 18th anniversary of her debut. During the event, a fan in the audience asked what she planned to eat for dinner.

IU’s answer was unexpected. “Me? I’m not sure. I’ll probably just eat some boiled eggs.”
Groans immediately came from the audience. Seeing her fans’ concerned reactions, IU went on to explain her eating method in more detail.
“It’s really filling. If you take two boiled eggs, drizzle some olive oil over them, and eat them, you won’t feel hungry all day.”
When fans appeared unconvinced, IU encouraged them to try it for themselves. “Give it a try. The olive oil is important. I think having some fat in the meal is important. If you eat it like that in the morning, you won’t feel hungry all day,” she said.
Her comments have drawn particular attention because of the extremely restrictive diet she discussed in the past.

During an appearance on tvN’s You Quiz on the Block in 2021, IU talked about a diet consisting of one apple for breakfast, two sweet potatoes or bananas for lunch, and a protein supplement for dinner.
IU acknowledged that she had indeed followed such a diet in the past, but stressed that it was something she did in her early 20s.
“That was when I was being really extreme. When I was in my early 20s, I thought there was nothing wrong with doing that,” she said. “I was very young at the time, and I only did it for a very short period of about three or four days.”
IU also expressed concern that the diet was still circulating online and warned people against following it. “If I ate like that these days, I wouldn’t even be able to sing one song.”
She emphasized, “It’s a little dangerous to think that celebrities eat like that every day and have no problems because of it. I absolutely do not eat like that anymore.”
Five years have passed since then, and this time, IU has introduced a different combination: boiled eggs with olive oil.
