On September 27, Kwon Mina shared a lengthy post on social media, writing, “At some point, I started refusing to back down and stopped letting unfair situations or things that hurt me simply pass. There is a reason I became this way.”
She said that her mental health has improved significantly recently and recalled that in the past, she had difficulty refusing other people’s requests. Kwon Mina explained, “Even when someone asked me to do something unreasonable that I couldn’t handle, I would first say, ‘Okay.’” She added that even a small compliment after fulfilling such requests used to make her happy.
However, she claimed that the situation changed over time. Kwon Mina wrote, “As I kept saying yes to everything, uncomfortable comments eventually started coming my way,” adding, “After enduring that until things were nearing the end, my voice became quieter and I couldn’t control my facial expressions, so didn’t you drug me to make me sleep?”
Kwon Mina continued, “If it had been one major incident 11 years ago, I could forget it. I think the wound could heal. But being subjected to it for 11 years is different.” She explained that she was speaking out “not because I want to make that woman the main subject again, but because I don’t want to be seen as someone who can be easily pushed around like I was back then.”
She went on to describe how her attitude has changed, saying, “I’ve come this far, and now I say what I want to say directly. I refuse things, I say when something upsets me, and if someone says something to me, I respond.” Kwon Mina added, “If you find me noisy or exhausting, you can simply run away without clicking whenever you see my name.”
She also shared her thoughts on the legal system. “Why does it feel like the law in our country is applied so favorably toward perpetrators?” she wrote, expressing frustration that victims often have to secure evidence, witnesses and legal representation themselves. She also criticized circumstances in which factors such as diminished mental capacity, impulsive offenses or letters of apology can affect sentencing.
Kwon Mina debuted as a member of AOA in 2012 and left the group in 2019. In 2020, she alleged that she had been subjected to prolonged bullying by then-leader Shin Jimin. Following the controversy, Shin Jimin left AOA and suspended her entertainment activities.
More recently, Kwon Mina claimed that she suffered burns following a skin treatment. She also publicly discussed a dispute involving the response she received from the clinic she visited for treatment and issues surrounding a membership refund.
