Actor Kang Hoon revealed that watching Kim Hye Jun’s character passionately support her favorite celebrity in My Bias, My Boss reminded him of his own longtime admiration for Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon.
On the morning of September 9, Kang Hoon sat down with SPOTV News at a café in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, following the conclusion of tvN’s Monday-Tuesday drama My Bias, My Boss. During the interview, he shared, “I originally started pursuing acting because I wanted to meet my favorite, Taeyeon.”
My Bias, My Boss follows a new employee who tries to meet her bias but ends up becoming her boss’s favorite employee. The office growth romance drama concluded with a happy ending on September 8.
In the series, Kang Hoon played Kang Ha Gi, the CEO of fashion brand Appello. His character is meticulous, thorough and coldly rational when it comes to work, but becomes awkward and clumsy when it comes to romance, creating an unexpected contrast in his personality.
Kang Hoon is well known as a devoted fan of Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon. When asked whether watching Nam Da Reum, played by Kim Hye Jun, reminded him of his own fandom for Taeyeon, he carefully responded, “Actually, it’s unrelated to me, but I’m being cautious because mentioning her might make Taeyeon uncomfortable.”
He continued, “At the beginning of our drama, the story is about someone joining a company because she wants to meet her favorite celebrity. In my case, the reason I initially chose this profession was also because I wanted to meet my favorite. But now I continue doing it because I’ve come to love this profession.”
He recalled, “There was a scene at the beginning where Da Reum meets Chan, played by Cha Woo Min, in an elevator. I felt that scene was similar to the first time I met Taeyeon. I think those similarities were what made me relate to the character.”
Kang Hoon and Taeyeon previously met on tvN’s Amazing Saturday. At the time, Kang Hoon openly showed his admiration for the Girls’ Generation member, drawing considerable attention. “When I met her on Amazing Saturday, I told her, ‘I became an actor thanks to you,’” he recalled. “When I first saw her, memories of all the moments when I admired Taeyeon as a child flashed through my mind like a panorama. I was incredibly happy at that moment, and I remember thinking that I was truly fortunate. I felt so grateful.”
Kang Hoon added, “I once had a dream of meeting this person and telling her that I was her fan. But now I have a new dream: I want to continue acting, the work that I love, for a long time. I also hope that someday I can become someone’s favorite, so that they can have the chance to meet me.”
