Actor Ji Soo spoke about how he turned his life around in the Philippines after he hit rock bottom following his bullying scandal.
Ji Soo recently spoke with media outlet Osen, where he talked about what he has been up to and how he has adapted to life in the Philippines. Currently, Ji Soo is signed with GMA, the Philippines’ largest broadcast station and is appearing in various programs. Something different Ji Soo pointed out is how the agency system works. In Korea, actors often sign with management agencies while in the Philippines, they sign directly with the broadcasting station.
This morning I went out for an interview on what would be the Philippine equivalent of Morning Garden and I did my own hair and makeup. I had to save money ,I just couldn’t bring myself to spend it on that.
This is a bit different from Korea, and actors often have to cover their own expenses.

He also talked about how he has been learning English, and his current proficiency.
I always had a dream of working overseas, and I decided I needed to properly study English, so I started [studying] when I came to the Philippines. I hired two private tutors and worked hard, and now I’m at a level where it doesn’t get in the way of my work.

Finally, he spoke about how his bullying scandal forced him to change his mindset and turn his life around.
GMA approached me first, which is how I ended up working in the Philippines.
Honestly, I’m someone whose life once fell apart. But when something breaks or collapses like that, you actually reach a kind of freedom. Going through something like that made me feel I needed to work even harder at whatever I do.
It’s been exactly two years since I started working in the Philippines. Being Korean does bring a bit more attention, and more people recognize me than before. I’m grateful that wherever I go, people respond so warmly. Seeing that, I find myself learning a lot too.
Recently, I briefly went back to Korea in July before returning to the Philippines. Korea was extremely hot too. I hope everyone is taking care of their health.
