TWICE’s Chaeyoung is starting a new chapter in her solo music career after ending her exclusive contract with JYP Entertainment, but she has made it clear that her future will still include the girl group.
Chaeyoung shared the news with fans on August 13 through a handwritten letter posted on social media. She said she wanted ONCE, TWICE’s official fandom, to hear the update directly from her before explaining her plans for her solo work under “LIL FANTASY.”
“LIL FANTASY” is the creative world Chaeyoung built around her music. She first introduced the name with her debut solo album, “LIL FANTASY vol.1,” which was released in September 2025.
In her letter, Chaeyoung looked back on her 14 years with JYP Entertainment, including the time she spent as a trainee. According to AllKpop, she thanked the agency and her TWICE members for supporting her throughout her career.
“I want to deeply thank everyone at JYP and Team TWICE for believing in and supporting me over the past 14 years,” Chaeyoung wrote.
She also called her fellow members her strength and biggest supporters. While her agency relationship is changing, Chaeyoung stressed that her role in TWICE will not.
“Most of all, please know that nothing changes with TWICE,” she wrote. “Everything I’ve received is thanks to my time as TWICE, which will always be my roots.”
Chaeyoung Opens New Chapter
Chaeyoung also shared her hope of making meaningful music through both sides of her career. She said she wants fans to continue connecting with Chaeyoung of TWICE as well as Chaeyoung in LIL FANTASY. Her first solo album showed how closely she connects her music with her own ideas and experiences. For “LIL FANTASY vol.1,”
Chaeyoung took part in the music and visual planning and used personal thoughts, notes and experiences as inspiration.
The album also received strong attention outside South Korea. It ranked No. 86 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Best Albums of 2025 and No. 7 on year-end K-pop album lists from Billboard and Forbes, KoreaHerald reported.
Chaeyoung described her new solo path as a fresh challenge and promised to keep developing as both an artist and a person.
Her announcement follows fellow TWICE member Jeongyeon’s recent departure from JYP Entertainment. Jeongyeon has signed with Varo Entertainment, while Chaeyoung is expected to pursue her individual music activities independently.
