The Pinkfong Company announced on August 10 that the boy will make his official music debut under the name Baby Shark Boy. He is set to release his first digital single, “WAVE,” at noon on August 20.
The new release marks the first project in The Pinkfong Company’s artist initiative, which aims to connect a globally recognized intellectual property (IP) with the real-life growth story of one of its original performers through music.
Released in 2016, the “Pinkfong Baby Shark Gymnastics” video has surpassed 17 billion views and has remained the most-viewed video on YouTube worldwide for 69 consecutive months.
Baby Shark Boy, who appeared in the original video, also made a surprise appearance in short-form content celebrating Baby Shark’s 10th anniversary last year. The video went on to receive 22 million views.
“WAVE” is a song that Baby Shark Boy personally participated in writing. The track captures his excitement about returning to the public eye after a decade, as well as his determination to embark on a new challenge. MONSTA X member Joohoney also features on the song.
Through the new song and its music video, The Pinkfong Company plans to showcase Baby Shark Boy’s past, present and new beginning in a multidimensional way. A behind-the-scenes documentary titled “WAVE: The Boy’s Record,” chronicling his journey growing up alongside Baby Shark, will also be released at a later date.
Baby Shark Boy shared his thoughts on the project, saying he has always been grateful that people still remember the video he appeared in as a child. He explained that while he once danced alongside Baby Shark, he now wants to share his own voice and stories that he has written himself. He added that he is happy to begin this new chapter together with those who have remembered him for so many years.
