SEVENTEEN’s Jun has released his first Chinese EP, 9, expanding his solo catalog with a seven-track project built around shifting emotions, self-discovery and imagery drawn from Chinese folklore.
PLEDIS Entertainment confirmed that the digital EP arrived on online streaming platforms on Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. KST. The agency officially describes 9 as Jun’s first “EP CHINA.”
The project follows Jun’s previous solo releases, including 2023’s “PSYCHO,” while giving the singer and performer considerably more space to develop an individual musical narrative than a standalone single allows.
Jun’s ‘9’ Contains Seven Tracks
Despite its title, 9 contains seven tracks rather than nine.
The sequence opens with “360 (Feat. Mabelz PiXXiE)” and continues with “月背,” “I See You,” “Dexire,” “寻途 (Inward)” and “4give” before closing with the title track, “9.” Melon lists all seven songs, while Bugs identifies “9” as the title track.
Three of those tracks — “月背,” “Dexire” and “4give” — are interludes designed to connect the project’s different emotional stages. The remaining four tracks form the EP’s longer song sequence.
Jun also has a substantial writing presence on the release. Published credits list him as a lyricist on “360,” “I See You,” “寻途 (Inward)” and “9.” Longtime SEVENTEEN collaborator BUMZU is among the composers and lyricists credited on several tracks, including the title song.
The track list also brings in Mabelz of Thai girl group PiXXiE for “360,” giving the EP its featured collaboration.
Musically, the official album notes describe “360” as drawing on Jersey club rhythms and electronic production, while “I See You” moves into hyperpop and “寻途 (Inward)” uses a darker alternative-pop sound. Those descriptions come from the project’s promotional notes rather than independent genre assessments.
A Nine-Tailed Cat Shapes the EP’s Concept
The title 9 is tied to the project’s central narrative rather than its number of songs.
Promotional material says the EP takes inspiration from the Chinese folk legend of a cat that gains nine tails through cultivation and ultimately reaches immortality. Within Jun’s album concept, that imagery becomes a metaphor for encountering unfamiliar emotions and gradually discovering a changed or more complete sense of self.
PLEDIS developed that story through a series of trailers before the EP arrived. The campaign began with “Awakening” and moved through installments titled “Admiration,” “Butterfly,” “Conquer,” “Doubt,” “Boredom,” “Chaos” and “Inward.” SEVENTEEN’s official Weverse media page lists the complete sequence.
Those titles make the promotional progression explicit: rather than repeatedly presenting a single image, the rollout follows a series of changing emotional states.
The official music video for “9” was released alongside the project and is listed on SEVENTEEN’s Weverse media page.
‘9’ Builds on Jun’s Earlier Solo Work
The combination of music, choreography, acting and fictional imagery is not entirely new to Jun’s solo work.
In a 2023 Weverse Magazine feature discussing “LIMBO” and “PSYCHO,” Jun spoke about developing his solo performances through both music and visual storytelling. The feature examined how acting, facial expressions and dance became part of the worlds surrounding those releases.
9 gives that approach a larger canvas. Instead of asking one song and one video to carry an entire concept, the EP can move its narrative through full-length songs, short interludes, trailers and a final title track.
The placement of “9” as the seventh and closing track reinforces that structure. According to the album notes, the song centers on reaching a point where the narrator stops avoiding his true feelings after moving through uncertainty and emotional upheaval.
Jun remains identified throughout the rollout as a member of SEVENTEEN. The release represents an expansion of his individual discography, not an announced change in his status with the group.
With the complete EP and “9” music video now available, listeners can move beyond the fragmented clues of the promotional campaign and hear how its seven tracks connect the emotions introduced throughout the rollout.
