Prosecutors have requested a 10 million KRW (approximately US$7,000) fine for a woman identified as A, who is on trial for allegedly stalking actor Hwang Jung-min and repeatedly sending messages to him and his family.
The prosecution also requested that A be ordered to complete an educational program related to her offenses during the sentencing hearing held at the Uijeongbu District Court’s Goyang Branch on August 11.
According to prosecutors, A repeatedly contacted Hwang Jung-min and his family over an extended period. During questioning ahead of the sentencing hearing, prosecutors alleged that she sent a total of 518 KakaoTalk messages and text messages to the actor and his family during a particular period.
Prosecutors further claimed that in 2025, A sent 275 messages over two days containing statements about taking her own life. The prosecution also questioned A about whether she continued posting about Hwang Jung-min on social media during the trial, allegedly causing further distress to the actor.
During the hearing, A reportedly argued that the case was not simply a one-sided situation involving an offender and a victim. She said, ” This case was not a one-sided incident “ , while also stating that she had no intention of contacting Hwang Jung-min again after the trial. Prosecutors explained their sentencing recommendation by citing both Hwang Jung-min’s desire for strict punishment and A’s reported remorse.
Hwang Jung-min’s side filed a complaint against A in August 2025, after which the court issued a 3 million KRW summary order against her in February 2026. A reportedly objected to the summary order and requested a formal trial. She also filed a civil lawsuit seeking more than 200 million KRW against Hwang Jung-min.
Meanwhile, A has repeatedly posted on social media claiming that she had a personal relationship with the actor. She has shared materials including alleged call records, recordings and message exchanges.
In the days leading up to the sentencing hearing, A continued posting on social media about the matter. Her posts reportedly included claims concerning a business she said she had planned with Hwang Jung-min, how they initially exchanged contact information and why she filed the civil lawsuit.
Hwang Jung-min’s agency, SEM Company, has strongly disputed A’s allegations. The agency has described A as a “stalking suspect who has continuously harassed Hwang Jung-min”, rejecting the claims surrounding their alleged personal relationship.
The court is scheduled to announce its ruling in A’s case on September 8.
