South Korean singer-actress IU is making her long-awaited musical return with a new digital single, “From This Star,” marking her first new release in about a year. The song is available starting September 10 across major music streaming platforms.
Released one year after her surprise single “Bye, Summer,” the new project serves as a pre-release for IU’s upcoming sixth studio album. The digital single features two lead tracks, “From This Star” and “Dear My Crazy Soulmate,” both written by IU herself, according to Korea JoongAng Daily.
The release has already generated interest after teasers were unveiled across IU’s official social media channels. The “Dear My Crazy Soulmate” music video shows IU and actress Sim Dal-gi portraying police officers.
According to YNA, the video features a mysterious sequence involving a shattered window, mirrored expressions and gestures, and actress Kim Young-ok reaching through the broken glass before handcuffs are placed on her wrist.
Meanwhile, a separate teaser for “From This Star” features an enigmatic storyline, The Chosun reported.
IU is shown facing an unidentified man through what resembles an old-fashioned video call screen. The two appear to communicate from separate locations, and IU later opens a sketchbook and exchanges something with him.
The song’s title has also sparked speculation among fans, particularly because its Korean wordplay could suggest a breakup. However, there is currently no evidence that the song is directly connected to IU’s personal life or her reported relationship history.
Star News says that IU also revealed new concept photos ahead of the release, showcasing a shorter bob hairstyle that marks a noticeable change from her signature long hair. The “From This Star” music video release is scheduled to follow at midnight on September 16, adding further anticipation for IU’s upcoming sixth full-length album.
