i-dle leader Soyeon has humorously addressed speculation that she once used one of her songs to take a dig at an ex-boyfriend who was reportedly a rapper.
Cube Entertainment recently released an intro film for Soyeon’s upcoming debut solo studio album through i-dle’s official social media channels.
The video begins with Soyeon reflecting on the final birthday of her twenties and looking back on her journey, describing it as “a life worth living.” It then chronicles major milestones in her life and career, from her childhood and trainee years to her appearance on Mnet’s Produce 101, debut with i-dle, and subsequent work as the group’s leader and overall producer.

During the retrospective, Soyeon unexpectedly brought up an old controversy. With a slightly embarrassed smile, she said: “I’m not the kind of person who’s brave enough to write a song on an album just to diss an ex-boyfriend or something.” Her playful remark appears to address speculation that surrounded “LIAR,” a track from i-dle’s 2022 studio album I NEVER DIE.
When the song was released, some listeners interpreted its direct lyrics as potentially targeting a specific rapper and connected them to rumors about Soyeon’s past romantic life. Rather than offering a lengthy explanation, Soyeon appears to have addressed the long-standing speculation with her characteristic sense of humor. Her brief comment has attracted renewed attention from fans, particularly because theories surrounding the meaning behind “LIAR” have resurfaced repeatedly over the years.
While her statement does not specifically identify or discuss the person fans previously speculated about, it appears to push back against the idea that she deliberately wrote the song as a public message aimed at an ex-boyfriend.
After years of leading i-dle and taking an active role in the group’s music production, Soyeon is now preparing to enter another major chapter of her career. The rapper, songwriter and producer will officially release her first solo studio album on September 7 at 6 p.m. KST. The intro film offers a look back at her journey so far while also hinting at the personal perspective behind her upcoming solo work.
As Soyeon prepares to step out on her own, her playful clarification about the “LIAR” controversy has given fans another glimpse into the personality behind one of K-pop’s most prominent self-producing artists.
