On August 31, Ha Ji Won appeared on MBC FM4U’s “Kim Shin Young’s Music Party” to promote her upcoming film The Light (Bi Gwang), directed by Lee Ji Won.
Set to hit theaters on September 2, Portrait of a Family follows top-star couple Joong Gu (Ryu Seung Ryong) and Nam Mi (Ha Ji Won), whose marriage falls apart after Joong Gu’s daughter Dong Ju (Kim Si A) suddenly appears. Eight years later, the couple becomes caught up in a shocking incident and risks everything they have left to uncover the truth and save Dong Ju.
In the film, Ha Ji Won plays Nam Mi, a former top star who falls from fame and is forced to work as a struggling entertainer to make ends meet.
During the broadcast, Ha Ji Won was asked whether there was a role from her past that she believed she could portray better if given another chance.
She replied that she would like to play Gil Ra Im from the hit drama Secret Garden again, saying she believed she could do an even better job with the character now.
However, when asked which role she felt most satisfied with and would find difficult to revisit, Ha Ji Won pointed to her character Nam Mi in Portrait of a Family.
“I played a struggling entertainer who had fallen from being a top star,” she said. “While portraying someone who had fallen so far, I naturally became emotionally immersed in her situation. It was extremely difficult and heartbreaking, and I experienced and felt so much through the role.”
She added that returning to the character would be emotionally painful because of how deeply she connected with Nam Mi’s circumstances.
