YoonA has fueled speculation that Girls’ Generation could reunite in 2027, when the influential K-pop group marks the 20th anniversary of its debut.

YoonA discussed the milestone during an appearance on veteran actress Kim Young-ok’s YouTube channel, according to Nate News. The episode, posted Aug. 19, marked the pair’s first meeting in three years since they appeared together in the drama “King the Land.”
During the visit, YoonA said she debuted at 17 and realized that next year would mark 20 years since she entered the entertainment industry. Kim celebrated YoonA’s 19th anniversary with a cake and a song, prompting an emotional response from the singer and actress.
When the production team asked whether Girls’ Generation would make a comeback for its 20th anniversary, YoonA replied, “Of course I have to make a comeback.” She then added, “Shouldn’t we celebrate the 20th anniversary? I’m thinking of getting together.”
YoonA did not announce a confirmed album, single, concert, or schedule. Her remarks nevertheless prompted renewed interest in a possible reunion of the group’s eight members: Taeyeon, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, YoonA and Seohyun.
Lao Dong reported that the group’s most recent full-lineup project was the 2022 album “Forever 1,” released to celebrate its 15th anniversary. The reunion came after the members had increasingly focused on solo music, acting and other individual activities.
The Vietnamese newspaper also noted that Tiffany had previously discussed the possibility of a special Girls’ Generation activity around August 2027. However, Lao Dong said those comments, like YoonA’s latest remarks, should not be treated as an official comeback announcement.
Girls’ Generation debuted in August 2007 and became one of the defining acts of K-pop’s second generation. The group is associated with major hits including “Gee,” “Genie,” “Oh!,” “Run Devil Run,” and “Lion Heart.” A full-member return would follow the group’s previous anniversary activities marking its 10th and 15th years.
Separately, Yoona is also maintaining an active acting career. GQ India reported on July 25 that she had been offered the role of forensic doctor Im Doeun in “Unnatural,” a Korean remake of the Japanese mystery medical series. The story follows forensic scientists investigating unexplained deaths. Lee Jin-wook has been offered the role of Doeun’s evidence-focused colleague, Koo Seunghyuk.
The outlet highlighted upcoming projects involving Lee Chae-min, YoonA’s co-star in “Bon Appétit, Your Majesty.” He is set to appear in the Disney+ fantasy mystery series “The Miracles of the Namiya General Store,” planned for 2027, and has been offered a role in the romance drama “My Reason to Die.”
