A K-Pop girl group idol choked up while speaking about the group’s heyday, gaining attention from netizens but earning no sympathy.
Recently, clips from a live broadcast by MAMAMOO‘s Wheein’s circulated online, sparking controversy. Wheein held a live broadcast wearing casual clothes and doing a mukbang to interact with fans. On that day, she mentioned she often cried easily and began opening up about her feelings.

She said, “I get very emotional during tours. I start thinking a lot about things I never considered in my early twenties. When MAMAMOO was in the height of their peak. I often think about going back to that time. Honestly, back then, I sometimes hated it because it was so hard. A person needs rest to appreciate the precious moments that come in between, but when you push yourself constantly, you often don’t realize or appreciate what you’re gaining.”
She continued, “There was no breathing room. Looking back now, it was tough but also fun. I think I miss it. When we were at our busiest. If I were told to go back now, I’m not sure if I could do it again. When I drink alone, I play old MAMAMOO videos. I think that’s my way of venting while drunk. I watch them and end up crying alone,” she said, shedding tears as she recalled the past.

Wheein said, “Back then, I told Kim Shin Young that I wanted to quit. But Shin Young unnie told me, ‘Even if you want to quit, there will certainly be a day when you miss it.’ Honestly, I didn’t understand that at the time. She said you’d miss it unconditionally. Now, I truly feel the weight of those words,” she said emotionally.
Netizens who watched the video reacted with comments such as “She didn’t renew the contract herself,” “This doesn’t resonate,” “Did she drink?” “Emotional rollercoaster,” “Then why didn’t she renew?” “Is MAMAMOO disbanding?” “Crying too,” and “Isn’t MAMAMOO still at their peak now?”
MAMAMOO, consisting of Solar, Moonbyul, Wheein, and Hwasa, debuted in 2014 and gained much love for their outstanding vocal abilities. In 2021, Wheein left the company after her contract expired; then in 2023, Hwasa moved to P Nation, choosing not to renew. After the two members’ departure, MAMAMOO had been focused on solo activities following their 2022 “ILLELLA” promotions.
Reunited after four years, MAMAMOO is currently holding their world tour MAMAMOO 2026 WORLD TOUR [4WARD].
