Gen Z Actor Arrested After Allegedly Assaulting Girlfriend in Car

On the morning of September 20, Yahoo News reported that Japanese actor and singer Inomata Shuto, born in 2001 and a member of the idol group timelesz, had been arrested on suspicion of assault. According to the report, at around 10:30 p.m. on September 18, Inomata and his girlfriend got into a heated argument in the parking lot of a convenience store in Tokyo’s Koto Ward. Inomata was accused of repeatedly punching his girlfriend in the face while they were inside a car. The woman reportedly managed to get out of the vehicle and rushed into the nearby convenience store seeking help with visible injuries to her face.
According to a witness, Inomata’s girlfriend entered the convenience store with a nosebleed. She reportedly appeared distressed and cried out for help, saying, “My boyfriend hit me.” Police were then immediately called to the scene.
During questioning, Inomata reportedly denied the assault allegation, explaining that his hand had accidentally struck his girlfriend while the two were arguing. However, some netizens expressed skepticism about his explanation and accused him of attempting to conceal what had actually happened.
His agency, STARTO ENTERTAINMENT, also issued an official statement regarding reports that Inomata had been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a woman. The company apologized to the alleged victim and announced that all of the 2001-born singer’s activities would be suspended for the time being.
The agency’s full statement read, “Today, we are informing you that Inomata Shuto has been arrested. We would like to extend our deepest and most sincere apologies to the person affected. Recognizing the seriousness of this matter, our company has decided to suspend all of Inomata’s activities for the time being. Once the authorities have reached an official decision regarding the case, we will determine the appropriate disciplinary action against Inomata. We sincerely apologize for the trouble and concern caused to fans and everyone involved.”
Across social media and online communities, many people expressed shock over news of Inomata’s arrest, particularly because the entertainer had been known for his gentle image. Comments included, “He has such an adorable face and always seemed so kind to the other members. I never imagined he could be accused of doing something that left another person injured,” and “I just saw this on the news and was genuinely shocked. I kept wondering, ‘What on earth is going on?’”
Inomata was born on August 17, 2001, in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. After graduating from high school, he worked as an accountant at a painting company managed by his father. In February 2025, he was officially selected as a new member of timelesz through the group’s member audition project, timelesz project. In October of the same year, Inomata made his acting debut in TV Asahi’s drama Papa and Daddy’s Home Cooking. He has also appeared in advertisements for several major brands.
