KakaoPage’s massively popular intellectual property Solo Leveling, which has accumulated more than 14.3 billion views worldwide, is being adapted into a Netflix original live-action series. The upcoming action fantasy drama will follow powerful hunters who protect the real world from terrifying monsters emerging from mysterious dungeons.

Actor Byeon Woo Seok has been cast as the male lead, Sung Jinwoo, taking on another potentially career-defining role. Joining him is actress Han So Hee, who will portray Cha Hae In, South Korea’s only female S-rank hunter. The two stars are expected to showcase their on-screen chemistry as they bring the beloved characters to life.

The series will also feature an impressive supporting cast, including Kang Mina, Kang You Seok, Lee Sung Min, and Jung Ji Hoon, also known as Rain. The combination of established veterans and rising stars is expected to add depth and excitement to the highly anticipated adaptation.

Originally released as a web novel before becoming a hugely successful webtoon, Solo Leveling has expanded into animation and established itself as a global entertainment phenomenon. Its animated adaptation achieved remarkable success at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards, winning nine major categories, including Anime of the Year, further demonstrating the franchise’s international popularity.

Following these achievements, the announcement of Netflix’s live-action adaptation has generated considerable excitement among fans worldwide, who are eager to see how the fantasy universe will be recreated with real actors and large-scale visual effects.

The story centers on Sung Jinwoo, initially known as the weakest E-rank hunter, who undergoes an extraordinary transformation after surviving a near-death experience. Through a mysterious leveling system, he gradually becomes an overwhelmingly powerful figure capable of protecting the world from catastrophic threats. Byeon Woo Seok, who rose to international fame through the hit drama Lovely Runner, is expected to portray both the character’s emotional development and his increasingly intense action sequences.

Han So Hee, meanwhile, has already demonstrated her action abilities through Netflix productions such as My Name and Gyeongseong Creature. Her experience in physically demanding roles has raised expectations for her portrayal of Cha Hae In, an exceptionally skilled hunter whose strength and presence make her one of the story’s most memorable characters.

To recreate the franchise’s expansive dungeon universe and spectacular battles, the production has assembled an experienced team of South Korean filmmakers. Directors Lee Hae Jun and Kim Byung Seo, known for their work on the disaster action film Ashfall, will jointly direct the series, bringing their expertise in large-scale cinematic storytelling to the adaptation.
Kakao Entertainment and Sanai Pictures will oversee production, while an international visual effects team will handle the creation of monstrous creatures and elaborate battle sequences. The collaboration aims to deliver immersive visuals that capture the scale and intensity of the original story.

Having evolved from a web novel into a webtoon, an award-winning anime, and now a live-action television series, Solo Leveling continues to demonstrate the growing global influence of Korean intellectual properties. With its established fanbase, star-studded cast, and ambitious production team, Netflix’s upcoming adaptation is attracting significant anticipation as audiences await a new interpretation of the beloved fantasy franchise.
