Jennie made a strong return to Japan as a headliner at Summer Sonic 2026, delivering powerful performances in Tokyo on August 14 and Osaka on August 16. Her two appearances at the festival’s 25th anniversary showed why she has become one of the most in-demand solo performers on the global music stage.
Summer Sonic is one of Japan’s biggest city-based music festivals. This year, Jennie shared top billing with major acts such as The Strokes, Jamiroquai, and L’Arc-en-Ciel, placing her alongside some of the world’s most respected performers, AllKPop reported.
In Tokyo, Jennie closed the MOUNTAIN stage with a high-energy set. She performed popular solo songs including “Mantra” and “like JENNIE,” giving fans the songs they came to hear while keeping the performance fresh with several unreleased tracks.
The new songs gave fans a glimpse of what could come next in Jennie’s music career. Instead of relying only on familiar hits, she used the festival stage to introduce fresh material and show another side of her growing solo sound.
Jennie Connects With Fans
Jennie also made a clear effort to connect with her Japanese audience. She spoke in Japanese during the performances, checked on fans’ well-being, and introduced her songs herself. That small but personal touch helped make the shows feel closer and more engaging.
Her stage fashion also became part of the conversation. Jennie wore a bold streetwear-inspired outfit featuring a white bra top, loose denim pants, a layered denim vest, a black beret, and chain accessories. The look matched the confident energy of her performances and drew attention from Japanese media.
Her Summer Sonic appearances were part of a busy 2026 festival run. According to KPopHit, before arriving in Japan, Jennie headlined major events including The Governors Ball in New York, Roskilde in Denmark, Open’er in Poland, MAD COOL Festival in Spain, and Lollapalooza Chicago.
Jennie’s music has also continued to perform well globally. Her collaboration with Tame Impala, “Dracula,” spent 11 weeks in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100.
The song also held the No. 1 position on Mediabase’s Hot AC Radio chart for five straight weeks.
