MC Mong held his solo concert “A Midsummer Night’s Ice-Kkaekki” at YES24 Live Hall in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, on August 14. It marked his first solo concert since 2022.
Videos and photos from the concert were shared by fans on social media following the performance, showing MC Mong performing his hit songs and interacting with the audience throughout the night. At one point, the singer appeared to become overwhelmed with emotion as he looked toward the audience, with footage capturing him fighting back tears on stage.
Despite the emotional moment, MC Mong continued performing and moved energetically around the stage. Fans responded by singing along and cheering throughout the concert, creating an especially warm atmosphere for his long-awaited return.
One fan shared footage from the show with the comment, “It was so much fun singing along together again after such a long time.” Others praised the performance, leaving messages such as, “Today’s stage was so moving” and “Please keep singing your wonderful songs for a long, long time.”
The strong response to MC Mong’s return was evident even before the concert began. When tickets went on sale last month, all seats sold out within just one minute, demonstrating that the singer continues to have significant drawing power among his fans despite his prolonged absence from the concert stage.
MC Mong had previously addressed the circumstances surrounding his return when announcing the concert. “I won’t hide because of speculation and misunderstandings. A singer has to prove himself on stage.” He added that he wanted to meet fans through his music, inviting those who wanted to see him to come to the concert.
MC Mong’s return comes after a period marked by controversies and disputes surrounding his professional relationships. Last year, he stepped down from his position as a producer at One Hundred and its subsidiary Big Planet Made Entertainment, citing deteriorating health. He subsequently became involved in a series of disputes and allegations connected to former business partner Cha Ga-won, chairman of One Hundred.
Among the allegations raised were claims involving overseas casino gambling and the alleged use of company funds. MC Mong has denied the allegations in full and announced plans to take legal action. Against that backdrop, his decision to return to the stage appears particularly significant. Rather than remaining away from the public eye, MC Mong has chosen to reconnect with his audience through live performances.
MC Mong’s Seoul concert will continue with another performance at the same venue on August 16. He will then head to Busan for another concert at KBS Hall on August 29, giving fans outside Seoul another opportunity to see his return to the stage.
After nearly four years away from solo concerts, MC Mong’s emotional performance, rapid ticket sellout and decision to address his return directly have drawn considerable attention from fans.
