Actress Park Bo-kyung has shared the touching story behind her Best Supporting Actress win at the 5th Blue Dragon Series Awards, revealing that her husband, fellow actor Jin Sun-kyu, was overcome with emotion and celebrated the moment even more than she did.
Speaking in a newly released interview on the official Blue Dragon Film Awards & Blue Dragon Series Awards YouTube channel, Park Bo-kyung reflected on the unforgettable night that marked one of the biggest milestones of her acting career.
Recalling the moment she was announced as the winner, Park Bo-kyung admitted she was completely overwhelmed. “I couldn’t think of anything. My mind just went completely blank, and all I could think was, ‘What do I do?’”
She revealed that she remained seated until her husband quietly reminded her it was time to go on stage. “Jin Sun-kyu told me, ‘You have to get up now.’” Actress Shin Hye-sun, who was seated nearby, also encouraged her. “She looked at me and said, ‘Senior, stand up. Go accept your award.’ That’s when I finally realized what was happening.”
Park Bo-kyung became emotional while explaining that the award represented more than her own achievement. She said Jin Sun-kyu had always hoped she would return to acting and someday receive recognition for her work. “I never dreamed about winning an award, but my husband dreamed it for me. He prayed for me. That gave me so much strength.” According to Park Bo-kyung, his unwavering support throughout her career made the moment even more meaningful.
The actress also looked back on walking the Blue Dragon red carpet alongside her husband. She revealed it had been 16 years since she last wore a formal evening gown and admitted she was nervous about everything from how to walk to where to pose.
Fortunately, having Jin Sun-kyu by her side eased her anxiety. She shared that he carefully guided her throughout the event, even telling her exactly where to stop for photographers and how to pose, allowing her to enjoy the experience with confidence.
One of the night’s most memorable moments came after Park Bo-kyung accepted her trophy. As she walked onto the stage, Jin Sun-kyu was seen wiping away tears from the audience. Laughing as she recalled the moment, Park Bo-kyung said she jokingly told him, “Pull yourself together.” After later watching the broadcast herself, she was deeply touched by his reaction. “He looked happier than when he won his own award. That really moved me.”
Park Bo-kyung also shared the sentimental meaning behind her Blue Dragon trophy. She explained that Jin Sun-kyu already had a Blue Dragon trophy displayed at home, and she had often wished she could have one beside it someday. “I always thought it would be nice if I had one too.” Now that both husband and wife own Blue Dragon trophies, she affectionately described them as their own special “couple item.”
Following the awards ceremony, Park Bo-kyung was stunned by the overwhelming support she received. When she checked her phone, she found nearly 700 unread messages and immediately closed it because she didn’t know where to begin.
She revealed that actress Han Ji-min personally recorded the television broadcast to congratulate her, while actor Song Joong-ki called Jin Sun-kyu and asked to speak with Park directly so he could offer his congratulations. Actress Kim Shin-rok also went out of her way to contact Park Bo-kyung after learning she doesn’t use a separate personal social media account. The flood of heartfelt messages, Park Bo-kyung said, made her truly realize just how much love and support she has received from her colleagues.
Despite their strong partnership in real life, Park Bo-kyung admitted she is cautious about acting opposite her husband. She explained that because they are married, there are moments when they instinctively see each other as husband and wife rather than as fictional characters, making it harder to stay immersed in a scene.
Although she said she would consider the opportunity if the right project came along, she joked that Jin Sun-kyu actually finds acting with her even more challenging than she does.
