Broadcaster Yoo Jae-seok and singer Kim Jong-kook looked back on their unexpected first meeting, sharing a lighthearted story that has become a memorable part of their long friendship. The pair recalled the moment during a recently released video from tvN’s variety show “You Quiz on the Block,” giving fans a rare glimpse into the early days of their careers.
Yoo Jae-seok revealed that he once worked as the host for a fan meeting of Turbo, the popular group that Kim Jong-kook belonged to. According to Koreaboo, he admitted he believed Kim would remember him from that event. Instead, Kim surprised him by asking, “That was you, hyung?”
Kim Jong-kook explained that he only discovered the connection years later after looking at old photos.
According to him, a fan pointed out that Yoo Jae-seok had been the event’s MC. Even the fan did not recognize him at first. It was only after seeing the pictures that they realized, “Wait a minute, the MC was Yoo Jae-seok.”

The conversation became even more entertaining when Yoo Jae-seok honestly shared what happened after the fan meeting ended. He joked that while it is proper for an MC to stay until the program is over and enjoy the performances, he left as soon as he received his payment.
“I’ll be honest. Rather than having affection for Turbo, as an MC, it’s proper to stay through the whole fan meeting and listen to the songs. But the moment I was paid, I was done. I left happily,” Yoo Jae-seok said with a laugh.
Kim Jong-kook then revealed that he clearly remembered that moment. He recalled watching Yoo Jae-seok receive a white envelope containing his payment while sitting in a corner, The Chosun reported.
According to Kim, it was considered a large amount of money at the time. He also remembered Yoo Jae-seok politely bowing at a 90-degree angle after accepting the envelope, a scene that stayed with him over the years.
Smiling at the memory, Yoo Jae-seok replied, “It was a lot of money for me, and I was really happy. I spent it well.”
