A pair of twin sisters have surprised the public after deciding to embark on careers in Japan’s adult entertainment industry side by side.
Although Japan’s adult film industry continues to face social stigma, the introduction of new legislation aimed at protecting performers has brought significant changes to the field. Against this backdrop, the story of two twin sisters who chose to enter the industry together has attracted considerable public attention.
Shikishima Mio and Shikishima Nagisa, both 34, officially made their debut as adult film actresses in January this year, appearing together in the same production. What has drawn the most attention is that they are biological twins who have spent virtually their entire lives together, sharing experiences and doing almost everything side by side.
An Unusually Similar Childhood
In an interview, the sisters revealed that their parents treated them equally from childhood, always buying them identical clothes and toys.
“Sometimes, when we look at old photographs, we can’t even tell which one of us is in the picture,” Nagisa said.
Their striking resemblance often led to amusing situations. They attended the same elementary, middle, and high schools and were frequently placed in the same class. According to Mio, they even made identical mistakes on school exams.
“We would get the same math problem wrong and make mistakes on exactly the same Kanji character. Our teachers often teased us about it,” one of the sisters recalled.
They also experienced some bizarre coincidences involving injuries. During one physical education class, Mio injured her right elbow. At another point that same day, Nagisa also hurt her left elbow.
The Decision to Enter the Entertainment Industry
Despite their close relationship, the sisters experienced a period of independence when they went to university. It was the first time they had lived separately, allowing them to recognize some of their individual differences. Mio had a boyfriend, while Nagisa found romantic relationships more challenging because she tended to be quite selective.
After graduating, they reunited and began working together again. They performed in theater productions and took jobs at a pachinko parlor to support themselves. Having each other around gave them a sense of security, as they could always rely on one another during difficult times. It was during this period that Mio began considering a career in the entertainment industry.
At the age of 31, Mio felt that her everyday life had become too predictable and lacked excitement. After exploring topics related to sensuality, she gradually learned more about the work of female performers in the adult film industry.
Nagisa was initially hesitant. With little romantic experience, she worried that filming such productions would be an overwhelming experience.
“I imagined the filming set, the cameras, and all the people around me. The more I pictured it, the more I felt that taking my clothes off in front of other people was something I could never do,” Nagisa admitted.
Nevertheless, Mio continued discussing the idea with her sister, sharing her intentions and trying to persuade her over a period of two years.
No Regrets About Their Debut
Over time, Nagisa’s perspective gradually changed as she began following other actresses on social media. She realized that many of them had clear goals and viewed the profession as a personal choice. Having previous stage acting experience and enjoying performing in front of an audience, Nagisa eventually decided to take on the challenge.
Mio revealed that their first filming session lasted approximately three days. Although she was extremely nervous at first, the actual experience turned out to be much better than she had imagined. After the production was released, she received plenty of positive feedback. Nagisa also felt happy with her decision, despite her earlier concerns.
The sisters said that their family and friends are still unaware of their new careers, although they believe the truth will eventually come out.
“I know that one day they will find out. But our parents have always told us to do what we love and live without regrets, so I believe they will support us,” Nagisa said.
For now, the sisters plan to continue working together and hope to earn recognition in the industry. Nagisa said she hopes to win awards, appear on television programs, and even take part in a collaborative production alongside male performers who are also twin brothers.
