TV personality Seo Dong Joo has spoken out about a frightening break-in at her home earlier this year involving a man who pretended to be a city gas inspector. The same individual was later linked to a robbery at actress Kim Gyu Ri’s home, which caused injury and raised public concern in South Korea about how the suspect was handled before the second incident.
Seo addressed the situation on June 6, 2026 (KST) through her social media account after receiving many messages from worried fans.
According to Koreaboo, she explained that early reports had caused confusion and made it clear she was not involved in any crime.
“I am not the robber who hurt Kim Gyu Ri. The stalker who broke into my home this January turned out to be the same person who entered Kim Gyu Ri’s home and committed the crime,” she wrote.
Seo said the incident happened when she was home alone. A man arrived claiming to be a city gas inspector and was allowed inside. At first, she believed him, but she quickly felt something was not right.
“I naturally thought he was a city gas inspector. Strangely, I felt an uneasiness that was hard to explain,” she shared, describing the moment as deeply unsettling.
Inside the home, Seo said the man walked around and took detailed photos of pipes and interior areas. She called her husband and kept the phone on speaker so the man would know she was not alone, while she carefully watched his movements.
Her dogs approached the stranger, and the man eventually left after appearing nervous. At one point, Seo even questioned her instincts and briefly offered him a drink before realizing the situation might be suspicious.

After he left, she met a real gas inspector outside and confirmed with Korea City Gas that no male worker had been sent to her home. She then reported the incident to police.
Seo later learned the man had allegedly described himself as a fan who wanted to meet her and “receive energy.” She also said he had tried to contact her before. She did not speak publicly earlier because investigators advised her to avoid sharing details during the case.
The situation gained wider attention after reports linked the same man to a break-in at actress Kim Gyu Ri’s home in Bukchon Hanok Village, Seoul, KPopHit reported. During that incident, the suspect allegedly committed robbery and caused injury before being arrested.
Police had previously sought an arrest warrant and temporary detention for stalking and trespassing in Seo’s case, but the court denied the request. The suspect was under trial without detention when the second incident occurred.
Seo ended her message with a warning to the public, urging caution when dealing with anyone claiming to be a utility worker.
“If anything feels even a little strange or off, never open the door or let someone in when you are alone,” she wrote, saying the experience remains a frightening memory.
