Hong Kong cinema legend Tony Leung has finally revealed the story behind his unexpected appearance in a K-pop music video and the answer is as surprising as it is heartfelt.
In a recent interview with GQ Korea, Tony Leung shared that he received zero payment for starring in Cool With You by NewJeans.
“I participated without any appearance fee. I hope it can be a small gift for Korean fans,” he explained.

The revelation instantly caught attention, especially considering Leung’s global status as one of Asia’s most respected actors.
Actor Lee Jung Jae, who appeared alongside Leung in the same interview, offered additional insight. He revealed that the music video’s director is a close acquaintance of his and had been incredibly excited about working with the Hong Kong star.
“He kept telling me how honored he felt to film with Tony Leung,” Lee Jung Jae shared, highlighting the significance of the collaboration from the production side.

Interestingly, this isn’t Tony Leung’s first brush with Korean music. He reminisced about appearing in a music video back in 2002, even recording a Chinese version of the song at the time showing his long-standing openness to cross-cultural projects.
Tony Leung’s decision to waive his fee adds a deeper layer to what might have otherwise been seen as a simple celebrity cameo. In an industry often driven by high budgets and global marketing strategies, his gesture stands out as something far more personal.
For fans, it transforms his appearance in “Cool With You” into more than just a visual highlight it becomes a meaningful bridge between generations, industries, and cultures.
