The Korea Football Association (KFA) is facing heavy criticism following allegations that it provided sexual entertainment to foreign referees ahead of national team matches.
According to a report from JTBC on August 6, the KFA allegedly arranged sexual entertainment for referees in 2011, including those involved in matches connected to major international competitions.
JTBC reported that the association provided these services to around 10 referees across seven matches that year. The matches reportedly included qualifiers for the 2014 Brazil World Cup, the final qualifiers for the 2012 London Olympics, and several friendly matches.
The report claimed that the KFA arranged the meetings in locations including Seoul, Changwon, and Ulsan. It also alleged that payments at massage establishments, amounting to hundreds of thousands of won, were made using a corporate credit card.
A former KFA official reportedly described the practice as “commonly done at the time.”
Following the allegations, the KFA released a statement addressing the controversy.
There may have been an unfortunate incident 15 years ago, but we have now established strict internal management guidelines and are making efforts.
