Singer Lim Chang Jung is set to reveal a surprising story from one of the most successful yet difficult periods of his career on TV Chosun’s “Golden Friday.”
The singer will talk about the unexpected criticism he faced after achieving major success with his hit songs.
The episode, airing on July 17 at 10 PM KST, will feature Lim Chang Jung performing his popular song “A Glass of Soju” as the opening stage, AllKPop reported. The cast praised his unique style, calling him a singer who is a genre of his own.
During the broadcast, Lim Chang Jung will also discuss the challenges of performing his songs live. His music is known for powerful vocals, high notes, and long breathing techniques, making his songs difficult for other singers to cover.
He explained that attempting his songs without enough preparation could create serious problems for performers. A singer could struggle with their voice or receive negative attention if the performance does not meet expectations.
Lim Chang Jung Opens Up About Harsh Criticism
One of the performers on the show, Son Bin Ah, still chose to take on Lim Chang Jung’s award-winning song “Again.”
She explained that if the challenge was already difficult, she wanted to perform a song that had won a major award. Her version focused more on a ballad style instead of following the original trot-inspired approach.
According to SportalKorea, the biggest moment of the episode comes when Lim Chang Jung looks back on the period when he won a Daesang after the success of “Again” and “Marry Me.”
At the time, the songs were dominating music charts, and many considered him to be at the highest point of his career. However, Lim Chang Jung revealed that the experience was not as positive as people expected. He shared that the period brought some of the harshest criticism he had ever received.
“I received all the insults I’d ever get in my life then,” Lim Chang Jung said. He also recalled one painful performance, adding, “When I was singing, all the audience members left.”
