Comedian Lee Jin Ho has reportedly been discharged from a Seoul hospital after months of treatment for a brain hemorrhage, just days before his first trial on illegal gambling and drunk-driving charges.
His agency, SM C&C, confirmed on August 9 that Lee is now resting at home, while his family has chosen not to share details about his condition or schedule.
According to ChosunBiz, Lee collapsed at his home on April 1 after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. He was taken to a hospital for emergency care and later spent weeks receiving treatment and rehabilitation at a university hospital in Seoul.
According to reports, Lee completed his discharge process in late May and returned home. However, he has continued receiving outpatient care and has quietly traveled between his home and the hospital for treatment. Reports said he and his family did not want to publicly discuss his health situation.
Lee is still dealing with some paralysis, which has affected his ability to move and communicate. His condition has improved, however, and he is now reportedly able to have short conversations and move around.
SM C&C said Lee Jin Ho is currently resting after being discharged. The agency did not provide further details about his daily schedule or medical treatment. His health update comes as he faces a court case involving illegal gambling and drunk driving. His first hearing is scheduled for August 14 at the Yeoju Branch of the Suwon District Court.
Lee Jin Ho Accused of Drunk Driving
Prosecutors indicted Lee without detention on May 29. He is accused of driving about 100 kilometers from Incheon to Yangpyeong while under the influence of alcohol during the early morning of September 24 last year.
Police initially measured Lee’s blood alcohol level at 0.11%, a level that can lead to the cancellation of a driver’s license, AllKPop reported. Lee later requested a blood test, and an analysis by the National Forensic Service reportedly found a blood alcohol level of 0.12%.
Lee also faces allegations of repeatedly using illegal online gambling websites and other gambling platforms.
The investigation began after a complaint was submitted through the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission’s e-People system. The case was later sent to prosecutors.
His health crisis happened while the legal investigation was ongoing. On April 1, Lee suddenly collapsed at home and needed emergency medical care.
Super Junior’s Kangin was reportedly speaking with Lee by phone when he became aware of the emergency and called for help. Paramedics then took Lee to a hospital in Seoul, where he received intensive care.
