On September 5, Go Young Wook, a former member of the group Roo’ra, sparked controversy after targeting actors Lee Byung Hun and Lee Min Jung with harsh remarks in a social media post.
Go Young Wook shared an article about the couple’s family vacation, in which Lee Byung Hun was seen sitting by a swimming pool with a seemingly expressionless face while his wife and children enjoyed themselves. He questioned whether the actor was genuinely happy or simply putting on an act: “Am I the only one who thinks this, or does my brother Lee Byung Hun really not look very happy? Or is that simply the expression most husbands have without realizing it when they travel with their families?”
Go also took a jab at Lee Min Jung, writing, “When I first met Lee Min Jung on the streets of Apgujeong when she was a high school student, she told me she wasn’t interested in the entertainment industry. Later, she appeared in my music video. Now that she is approaching middle age, she seems obsessed with being a celebrity.”
Go’s comments drew a wave of reactions, with many criticizing the rapper for being malicious and seemingly enjoying taking digs at others. Some others remained skeptical, citing past controversies surrounding Lee Byung Hun and Lee Min Jung’s marriage.
Neither Lee Byung Hun nor Lee Min Jung has publicly responded to the controversy. The couple married in 2013 and have two children. Lee Byung Hun was previously caught sending flirtatious messages to a younger female colleague, later apologized, and was forgiven by his wife.
Go Young Wook is a former member of the music group Roo’ra. His career collapsed after he was arrested and sentenced to two years and six months in prison in 2013 for sexual offenses involving minors. After being released in 2015, Go has continued to spark controversy through provocative comments and repeated attacks targeting celebrities.
