Kim Jong Kook surprised viewers with a hilarious confession about unexpectedly becoming a “grandfather” just nine months after his marriage.
The story will be revealed during the upcoming May 28 broadcast of KBS2 variety show Problem Child in House, which will feature trot singers Son Tae Jin and Park Ji Hyun as special guests.
During the episode, Son Tae Jin reportedly impressed the cast by reinterpreting Kim Jong Kook’s hit song Lovely in both classical vocal and trot styles. Inspired by the performance, Kim Jong Kook also attempted singing in a trot style himself, creating unexpected laughter on set.
Park Ji Hyun even praised Kim Jong Kook’s voice, comparing his tone to legendary trot singer Na Hoon A.
“Your voice sounds similar to senior Na Hoon A,” Park Ji Hyun reportedly commented, prompting Kim Jong Kook to jokingly respond, “Maybe I should audition for a trot competition.”
The episode also featured Son Tae Jin opening up about his surprising family connection to legendary singer Shim Soo Bong. He explained that Shim Soo Bong is technically his “great-aunt,” though the small age gap between her and his father made the relationship feel much more casual growing up.
However, the biggest laughter reportedly came from Kim Jong Kook’s unexpected “grandfather” revelation.
The singer explained that one of his nephews, who is not much younger than him, recently became a parent. Because of that, Kim Jong Kook naturally ended up being called a grandfather figure within the family.
“My nephew’s child calls me grandpa,” he confessed humorously. “I avoid seeing them on purpose because I don’t want to hear that.”
His honest and playful reaction reportedly left everyone on set bursting into laughter.
The full episode featuring Kim Jong Kook, Son Tae Jin, and Park Ji Hyun will air on May 28 at 8:30 PM KST on KBS2’s Problem Child in House.
