On August 13, Kim Hye Jun sat down with iMBC Entertainment in Jongno, Seoul, for an interview about Disney+ original series A Shop for Killers Season 2.
A Shop for Killers Season 2 is a stylish action series that follows Ji An, who becomes the new owner of the shopping mall after going through a brutal transition process. Alongside the mysteriously returned Jin Man, she launches a full-scale counterattack against Babylon’s global forces. The series returns two years after the first season was released in 2024.
Kim Hye Jun plays Jung Ji An, the new owner of the shopping mall who struggles to protect the members of Murthehelp as they come under attack from Babylon.
With the currently airing tvN drama My Bias, My Boss marking Kim Hye Jun’s first romantic comedy in 10 years since her debut, the actress has spent much of her career appearing in major genre productions. Kingdom, Inspector Koo, and A Shop for Killers series are among the projects most closely associated with her.
When asked why genre projects have continued to come her way, Kim Hye Jun jokingly attributed it to the fact that she does not have particularly distinctive physical features. “I look like an ordinary person you could see anywhere, don’t I? I often hear people say that I look like their younger cousin,” she said. “Maybe people are drawn to the unpredictable charm of a girl who has that kind of ordinary quality.”
She continued, “Perhaps industry professionals like the contrast of seeing an actress with this image suddenly shooting guns and covered in blood, which is why I keep getting called for these kinds of roles.”
Kim Hye Jun also laughed when discussing the fact that A Shop for Killers and My Bias, My Boss, which feature dramatically different characters, have partially overlapped in their release schedules. “It was fun,” she said. “When I watched My Bias, My Boss, I realized that I smile and laugh a lot.” However, she admitted that taking on a romantic comedy for the first time was challenging. “It was my first romantic comedy, and it was quite difficult. Making people laugh and feel happy is harder than getting angry. That’s why it was such a new and enjoyable experience for me.”
She also described the simultaneous release of the two series as an unusual experience. “It feels strange having both come out at the same time. On Mondays and Tuesdays, I’m in a bright, pink, sparkling world, while Wednesdays are all black. It feels like I’m living two different lives,” she said with a laugh.
The final episode of A Shop for Killers Season 2 was released on August 12.
