According to OSEN on April 25, Kang Dong-won is expected to join director Kwak Kyung-taek’s new film Tobeol. A representative from the actor’s side confirmed, “It is true that he has received an offer to appear in Tobeol and is currently reviewing it.”
Tobeol is a historical film set during the Japanese colonial period, focusing on the time around Korea’s liberation. As a period piece, the film is expected to require a large-scale budget, with production led by AD406. Meanwhile, Showbox—known for producing consecutive box office hits—is reportedly in discussions to handle investment and distribution.

In addition to Kang Dong-won, the production is also reaching out to popular actresses in their 20s and 30s for the female lead role. Another major character has also been offered to a well-known actor, who is currently reviewing the script.
The film will be directed by Kwak Kyung-taek, who gained acclaim for his iconic noir film Friend. He has since built a strong filmography with works such as Typhoon, Eye for an Eye, Friend 2, The Classified File, and Firefighters.
Meanwhile, Kang Dong-won is already drawing attention with his upcoming film Wild Sing, set to premiere on June 3. In the movie, he transforms into a member of a 1990s co-ed idol group called Triangle. The comedy follows the group’s attempt to stage a comeback 20 years after disbanding due to an unexpected incident.
In Wild Sing, Kang Dong-won stars alongside Uhm Tae-goo and Park Ji-hyun, recreating the nostalgic vibe of 1990s K-pop through creative SNS marketing. With his idol transformation already generating buzz, anticipation continues to build for his potential role in Tobeol, signaling another busy chapter in his acting career.
