Physical album sales have become one of the most closely watched indicators of success in the K-pop industry. With fans collecting multiple versions of the same release, sales figures often become a major talking point whenever an artist makes a comeback.
Over the years, numerous K-pop acts have reached extraordinary milestones, with some artists surpassing the million-copy mark and establishing themselves among the industry’s top sellers.

However, one recent solo release has attracted attention for a very different reason—not because of record-breaking numbers, but because of the artist’s apparent response to them.
THE BOYZ debuted in December 2017. More recently, several members have been pursuing individual activities after leaving ONE HUNDRED.
Kevin Moon recently launched his solo career with FREECHILD, led by a title track of the same name.

According to the Hanteo Chart, FREECHILD had sold 1,275 copies at the time of reporting. On the second day of sales alone, the album recorded just two additional copies.
The relatively modest figures, along with social media posts that some fans interpreted as being aimed at another group, subsequently became the subject of online reactions and mockery.
Kevin, however, appeared to respond by taking a different perspective on the importance of sales statistics.
In posts shared on September 6, the singer reflected on the idea of not placing too much importance on numbers, writing, “Who cares about statistics?” He instead emphasized the happiness that can be created for other people.
Kevin also shared encouraging thoughts about inspiring others to pursue their goals and create art, focusing on the personal meaning behind making music rather than simply measuring success through figures.
Fans responded positively to his message, leaving words of encouragement and praising Kevin for maintaining his perspective despite the attention surrounding his album sales.
