Jisoo Takes On Villain Role in Philippine Drama 5 Years After School Violence Controversy
Actor Jisoo takes on his first major villain role in Philippine drama Taskforce Firewall, five years after halting Korean activities amid controversy.
Actor Jisoo is continuing his acting career in the Philippines, taking on a major villain role five years after suspending his activities in South Korea following a school violence controversy.
On September 14, Jisoo shared new behind-the-scenes photos from Taskforce Firewall, writing, “On set as Dong Hyun, Off set with family. Lovely September days.”
The photos showed Jisoo sporting facial hair and a long scar across one side of his face for his character, Dong Hyun.
In the GMA Network action drama, Dong Hyun is portrayed as a cold and calculating antagonist behind a criminal organization involved in sexual exploitation and blackmail. Jisoo has described the character as his first full-fledged villain role, revealing that he studied villains from various films while preparing for the performance.
Jisoo resumed acting in the Philippines with Black Rider in 2024 and later signed with Sparkle, GMA’s talent management agency. He has since expanded his local career through projects including Never Say Die and Love, Siargao.
The actor halted his Korean entertainment activities in 2021 after allegations of school violence emerged while he was starring as On Dal in KBS2’s River Where the Moon Rises. Jisoo acknowledged past misconduct in a handwritten apology and subsequently left the drama.
Five years later, Jisoo is now building a new acting career in the Philippines, with Taskforce Firewall marking a notably darker turn in his on-screen image.
