On October 21, a video titled “A Day of Being Bombarded with Questions from Hwanggeumis” was uploaded to Hwang Jung-eum’s YouTube channel. In the video, she answered a variety of questions from subscribers, sharing her honest thoughts on marriage and raising children.
When asked which point in her life she would return to if given the chance, Hwang Jung-eum replied, “I would want to go back to before I got married in 2015. It was a shining period for me as an actress, and there were so many people looking for me and wanting to work with me. That’s why I’d like to return to that time.”
However, she quickly added, “If going back meant I wouldn’t get to meet Wangsik and Kangsik, I would choose Wangsik and Kangsik instead. They’re so adorable.” Her response revealed the special place her two sons hold in her heart.
When offering advice to a subscriber who was considering marriage, she gave a blunt response: “Don’t get married. I don’t want to get married again for the rest of my life, until the day I die.” She continued, “I’m fine with living together. I don’t like being legally tied to someone. It took me nine years to get divorced.” She then declared, “I’m now completely committed to being single.”
Hwang Jung-eum also shared a frightening memory from childbirth. “I had a natural delivery. I gave birth to Wangsik after 24 hours of labor,” she recalled, adding that she could barely remember the experience.
She went on to reveal, “The doctor at the hospital apologized to me. They said they had thought the baby weighed 3.8 kilograms and proceeded with a natural delivery, but they hadn’t realized he actually weighed 4.18 kilograms.” Her story surprised viewers.
The actress also shared some of her own parenting tricks for raising her two sons. “Since I’m an actress, I sometimes act things out. I do a slightly crazy performance,” she said. “When I make my eyes look unfocused, the kids who were making a fuss start watching me cautiously. They stay quiet for about five minutes.” Her amusing confession made viewers laugh.
She added, “When the kids don’t listen, I sing yodeling songs. They start laughing, and it helps lighten the mood.”
Hwang Jung-eum also discussed her plans for her sons to study abroad. “Honestly, life has been so hectic and exhausting lately that I’ve put their study abroad preparations on hold,” she revealed.
She explained, “They’re so adorable that I feel like if we go abroad, we’ll have to go together. I don’t think I could send them away on their own. I don’t know what will happen in the future.” Nevertheless, she admitted that she still wants them to study abroad. “I want to show them the wider world. Nothing is more precious than experience,” she said.
Meanwhile, Hwang Jung-eum married Lee Young-don, a businessman and former professional golfer, in 2016, and they have two sons together. The couple announced their separation in 2024.
