According to a report by OSEN on October 20, Go Soo and Kim Hee-sun have confirmed their appearances in MBC’s upcoming drama The Wife and begun preparations, with the series targeting a premiere in June next year. The two actors will take on the lead roles, portraying characters whose lives are deeply intertwined. Having previously played a couple in My Fair Lady, which ended its run in 2003, their reunion more than two decades later has raised expectations for more nuanced performances and a mature on-screen chemistry. Viewers are already eager to see what kind of synergy the two actors, now more seasoned with age and experience, will create together.

The Wife explores the raw realities of desire and love surrounding one woman. It tells the tragic story of a woman who struggles desperately to protect her secrets, only to find herself sinking even deeper into ruin, as well as her journey toward atonement. Written by Jung Ryeo-joo, the drama was selected as an outstanding entry in the 2022 KBS TV Drama Mini-Series Screenplay Competition. Production will be handled by Samhwa Networks, the company behind the Dr. Romantic series.

The drama’s journey to the screen has not been smooth. It was initially scheduled to be produced as a KBS2 miniseries in 2023, but the planned broadcast fell through. The project subsequently moved to SBS, where it again failed to make it to air. Now, three years later, MBC is moving forward with production, giving the long-delayed project a fresh start.

The two actors’ recent activities have also drawn attention. Kim Hee-sun, who has been celebrated as one of the original beauty icons of Korean entertainment since the 1990s, appeared in TV Chosun’s Don’t Call Me Ma’am last year. Her return to MBC comes two years after the drama Bitter Sweet Hell. Go Soo, who has delivered powerful performances in works such as Piano and Empire of Gold, also made a brief appearance in this year’s film Colony, leaving a lasting impression. More recently, he ended his 15-year relationship with longtime agency BH Entertainment and embarked on a new chapter as an independent actor.
