Well, that was…different?
It’s common for celebrities to announce their nuptials on social media or through their agencies, but one girl group star decided to do things a little differently.

Asuka Kuramochi is a singer, actress, TV presenter, and a former member of the Japanese idol girl group AKB48. She left the group in 2015. On June 27, Asuka announced that she is now married to a non-celebrity man.

While it’s common for celebs to marry people who are outside of the entertainment industry, it’s far more uncommon for them to announce their marriage in a wrestling ring. On X, Asuka revealed that she had broken the news in the ring at a Katano Amanogawa Pro Wrestling event.

She also shared a photo of herself with retired professional wrestler Kenta Kobashi, who served as her witness at her marriage. Given the circumstances, one might assume that her husband is in the wrestling industry, but Asuka put an end to those rumors before they could begin; he’s not involved in entertainment or wrestling.

So, why a wrestling ring? Since Asuka was working as a ring announcer, she was given the opportunity to break the news there. In her post, she also included a video of the announcement.
