Former Sechs Kies member Ko Ji Yong has revealed that he and his wife, family medicine specialist Heo Yang Im, divorced two years ago. The singer-turned-businessman personally shared the news on July 29, explaining that he waited to make the announcement to protect their son, Seungjae.
“My wife and I divorced two years ago,” Ko Ji Yong wrote in a social media post. He explained that he kept the matter private because he wanted his son to have time to understand the situation and continue growing in a stable environment.
“I wanted to protect Seungjae so that he could accept the situation and grow up in a stable environment,” Ko said. He added that the divorce was a decision made with mutual respect and responsibility, according to AllKPop.
“Our divorce was a decision we made out of respect for each other’s paths and to fulfill our responsibilities as adults. I will continue to do my best as a father,” he shared.
According to reports, custody of their son was given to Heo Yang Im. Ko said that although they are no longer husband and wife, they continue to support each other while focusing on raising their child.
“Although we have parted ways as husband and wife, we continue to support one another and are doing well,” Ko said. “I would appreciate it if you could watch over us with warmth and understanding.”
Ko Ji Yong Returns to Public Life
Ko Ji Yong debuted as a member of Sechs Kies in 1997 and became one of the group’s most recognized members during the late 1990s. Known for his tall appearance and popularity among fans, he later stepped away from the entertainment industry after the group’s disbandment and moved into business.
In 2013, Ko announced his marriage to Heo Yang Im, and the couple welcomed their son the following year. They later gained public attention by appearing together on the KBS2 variety show “The Return of Superman,” where viewers followed their family life.
The recent announcement came after public concerns about Ko’s health due to changes in his appearance. He addressed those concerns, explaining that he had experienced temporary liver function issues but was recovering.
“Many people worried about my health, but I am currently recovering and improving a lot,” Ko said, thanking those who showed concern, ChosunBiz reported.
Following the divorce announcement, Ko is preparing to return to more public activities. He plans to continue projects including live broadcasts on social media and social contribution efforts, while also focusing on his role as a father.
