Former ARIAZ member HyoGyeong has sparked controversy after claiming that “sugar daddy” relationships exist within the K-pop industry, raising questions about power dynamics behind idol management and promotions.
Hyokyung, who previously appeared on JTBC’s survival program “Mixnine,” shared the claims in a YouTube video discussing her experience as a former idol.
In the video, HyoGyeong stated that such relationships are not just rumors, but something she personally witnessed during her time in the industry.
She alleged that some idols were involved with significantly older company executives or CEOs, suggesting that these relationships sometimes influenced career opportunities.

HyoGyeong further claimed that these dynamics created an environment where power imbalance could affect trainees and rookies.
She also shared an incident involving a friend who was once a trainee, stating that a senior figure from a company invited them out and behaved inappropriately during a meeting, eventually leading the friend to leave the idol path altogether.
These claims, while unverified, quickly spread online and triggered heated discussion about the darker side of the entertainment industry.
As the video gained traction, HyoGyeong later posted another clarification video, stating that her comments were not directed at her former agency specifically and were based on broader industry observations rather than accusing a single company.

Hyokyung first gained public attention after ranking in the Top 8 on JTBC’s survival show “Mixnine” in 2017. She later debuted in 2019 as a member of ARIAZ under Rising Entertainment, a label associated with Star Empire Entertainment.
The group eventually disbanded in 2022.
The claims have triggered mixed reactions online. Some netizens expressed concern about potential abuse of power in entertainment companies, while others urged caution, noting that the allegations are based on personal testimony without concrete evidence.
Discussions have also reignited broader debates about trainee systems, company control, and transparency in the K-pop industry.
While Hyokyung’s statements have gone viral, no specific individuals or companies have been confirmed, and the claims remain unverified personal allegations.
