For most male Korean K-Pop idols, enlistment is mandatory, barring some extreme circumstances. These circumstances are sometimes manipulated to avoid specific services, as seen with the recent surge of Taiwanese celebrities found out for their mandatory services.
While less frequently discovered in K-Pop, there have been cases of idols being found to have altered records in order to change service.
In January 2023, then VIXX member Ravi was considered to be the idol rapper involved in a military draft evasion case, based on alleged communication between him and a broker.
Ravi was found guilty and sentenced to a suspended sentence, and voluntarily offered to enlist twice, completing his service in December 2025. The idol left VIXX in April 2023 as a result of the investigation.
Since his service ended, Ravi has made one public appearance, but no official updates on his activities.
However, on July 7, a fan shared that Ravi joined a fan group chat, and sent a long message, along with proof images of himself.
The messages from Ravi checked in on fans, while promising to do his best to meet fans again.
Hello, it’s Ravi. Have you all been doing well and staying healthy?
I feel a little hesitant reaching out like this out of the blue. I hope you’ve been doing well, and I worry that my message might stir up discomfort that you’ve managed to put aside.
I can’t begin to imagine or fully understand the many emotions you’ve all carried and that have become tangled together over such a long period of time. Because of that, I’ve found it difficult to know what I should say or how I should begin this letter.
But I felt that if I let more time pass simply because it was difficult, I would regret it, so I decided to write to you like this. I did send my greetings through Nyeok before, but I felt that writing directly to you like this is different.
It feels heavy to say this, but what I really wanted to tell you is that I miss you all very much, and I’ve been thinking of you.
More than anything, I hope you’re all staying healthy and taking good care of yourselves.
I’ll continue working hard and doing everything I can so that the day comes when I can meet you all again.
I heard it’s supposed to rain a lot this week, so please remember to bring an umbrella with you, and make sure you’re eating well too.
