On August 2, a representative from Cha Eun Woo‘s agency, Fantagio, told Ilgan Sports, “Cha Eun Woo has requested a tax review in accordance with the procedures prescribed by law in order to obtain a legal judgment. As the matter is currently under review, we ask for your understanding that it is difficult to provide further details at this time.“
According to a report by Edaily on the same day, Cha Eun Woo submitted a petition to the Tax Tribunal earlier last month, arguing that the National Tax Service’s tax assessment of approximately KRW 13 billion was unfair. The filing was reportedly made just before the 90-day deadline allowed after receiving the official tax notice.
A tax appeal is an administrative procedure that allows taxpayers to challenge the legality of a tax assessment by the National Tax Service before pursuing litigation in court.
Earlier this year, Cha Eun Woo became the center of public attention after reports emerged that the National Tax Service had initially notified him of additional income taxes exceeding KRW 20 billion. Following adjustments, including refund procedures, the amount was reduced to approximately KRW 13 billion, which the actor paid in full.
Meanwhile, Cha Eun Woo enlisted in the military in July last year and is currently serving in the military band. He is scheduled to be discharged on January 27, 2027. Most recently, he greeted viewers through the Netflix series The WONDERfools, which premiered in May.
