BTS member J-Hope has become the center of an online debate following a comment he made about Peru during the group’s latest concert, with fans expressing sharply divided opinions over his intentions.

Peru was among the destinations on BTS’s ARIRANG World Tour, hosting three concerts that attracted enthusiastic crowds. However, the group’s visit was also overshadowed by controversy surrounding fan behavior. Large gatherings outside the members’ hotel and concerns about their personal privacy sparked criticism, despite the excitement surrounding the performances.
The situation became more complicated after BTS leader RM addressed the issue through a Weverse post. Although his message appeared to highlight the importance of respecting the members’ boundaries, some fans interpreted his remarks as criticism directed specifically at South American supporters, leading to heated discussions online.
On October 10 (KST), BTS held the third and final concert of its Peru stop. During the performance, J-Hope spoke to the audience in Spanish and described Peru as the country that loves BTS the most.
His words were warmly received by many Peruvian ARMYs, who viewed the statement as a heartfelt acknowledgment of their passion and dedication. For those attending the concert, the moment offered a meaningful connection between the artist and his local fans.
However, the comment also prompted skepticism among some social media users. They questioned whether J-Hope’s statement reflected his genuine feelings or was intended to ease tensions following the controversies surrounding the group’s visit.
Some fans suggested that the remark could have been an attempt to reassure Peruvian supporters after the backlash over RM’s earlier comments. Others defended J-Hope, arguing that there was no clear evidence that his words were anything other than a sincere expression of appreciation.
Meanwhile, RM had also addressed allegations of xenophobia during the second night of BTS’s ARIRANG concerts in Peru. His response further fueled online discussions, highlighting the tensions that emerged during an otherwise highly anticipated stop on the group’s world tour.
