On the afternoon of October 22, the 14-3 Criminal Division of the Seoul High Court held a hearing to deliver its ruling in the appeal trial of the man, identified as A, who was indicted on charges of robbery resulting in injury.
The court upheld the original seven-year prison sentence, stating, “After comprehensively reviewing all the sentencing factors, we find that the original sentence imposed on the defendant falls within a reasonable range. We dismiss both the defendant’s and the prosecution’s appeals.”
A was indicted on charges of unlawfully entering Nana‘s home in Acheon-dong, Guri, Gyeonggi Province, in November last year while carrying a weapon. He allegedly threatened Nana and her mother and attempted to steal valuables, but his attempt was unsuccessful.
During the incident, both Nana and her mother sustained injuries. A also sparked controversy by filing a countersuit against Nana, claiming that he had been injured while being subdued.
Investigators recognized Nana’s actions as legitimate self-defense and decided not to refer her case for prosecution. However, allegations that A had falsely accused Nana were referred to the prosecution.
At the final hearing of the appeal trial, prosecutors had sought a 10-year prison sentence for A. Nevertheless, the court upheld the seven-year sentence handed down at the first trial.
