Hollywood actress Zendaya has unexpectedly found herself at the center of an etiquette controversy after reports claimed that she remained seated while greeting French First Lady Brigitte Macron at a fashion show in Paris.
On October 6 (local time), Zendaya attended a fashion show hosted by luxury brand Louis Vuitton at the Louvre Museum in Paris, France.
According to French magazine Grazia, celebrities including Pharrell Williams and BLACKPINK’s Lisa stood up to greet Brigitte Macron when she arrived at the Paris Fashion Week event. Zendaya, however, reportedly remained in her seat, offering only a smile and a brief handshake instead of standing to welcome the French First Lady.
Following the report, some internet users criticized the actress for what they perceived as a lack of proper manners. Comments included, “She lacks basic etiquette and an understanding of social norms,” and “It’s common courtesy to stand up when the French First Lady approaches to greet you.”
However, others came to Zendaya’s defense, arguing that the criticism was excessive. Some pointed out that the French First Lady does not hold an official government position, while others suggested that Zendaya might not have immediately recognized Brigitte Macron amid the busy atmosphere of the fashion show. Supporters emphasized that a brief interaction should not be used to judge the actress’s overall character or manners.
Grazia also downplayed the incident, describing it as a minor misunderstanding that unfolded within just a few seconds in a crowded and hectic environment.
