A controversial actress was recently “punished” with AI aiding in the process.
Zheng Shuang debuted in China in 2009, appearing in a remake of the series Meteor Shower. This led to her first nomination for “Best Actress” at the 25th China TV Golden Eagle Awards, making her the youngest actress to be nominated.
In 2021, her career took a hit after the actress’s ex-boyfriend exposed that the two had become parents of two children through surrogates in the United States. He also alleged that Zheng had abandoned the children after their relationship went sour and was unable to force late-term abortions due to legal issues.
Surrogacy was also illegal in China, and the legal loopholes are frowned upon. Zheng also had subsequent scandals, leading to her becoming blacklisted.
One of the popular series the actress appeared in is Love O2O, which recently returned to streaming after a decade under the name A Smile Tilts the City with one noticeable difference. Zheng’s face was replaced by AI-swapping technology, placing actress Wang Zhuyue‘s face over top.
Subsequent backlash resulted in Wang apologizing, saying that she authorized the facial swapping and that it would not happen again in the future.
