KBS 2TV’s variety show Problem Child in House aired its 295th episode on December 25 as a Christmas special, featuring an in-depth discussion on mental health that drew considerable attention.
The episode welcomed Dr. Kim Bung-nyeon, a child and adolescent psychiatrist from Seoul National University, who shared medical insights on various mental health conditions that are increasingly discussed in modern society. Dr. Kim explained disorders such as autism spectrum disorder and ADHD from a clinical perspective, offering viewers a clearer understanding of these conditions and their growing prevalence.

During the broadcast, Kim Jong-kook and Yang Se-chan took part in an informal evaluation related to recent mental health concerns, leading the conversation toward adult ADHD. Dr. Kim noted that diagnoses of autism spectrum disorder have increased four to five times over the past 20 years, attributing this rise to greater public awareness as well as environmental factors. He also emphasized that ADHD should not be viewed solely as a disorder, highlighting its connection to diverse personality traits and creativity in modern society.
Yang Se-chan, in particular, brought laughter to the studio by recalling his old school records and jokingly suggesting that he might have ADHD. Responding with humor, Dr. Kim remarked that Yang may have simply been a playful child rather than someone with a disorder, while also reassuring viewers that receiving an ADHD diagnosis is not something to despair over.
The Christmas special recorded a nationwide viewership rating of 3.1%, reflecting steady audience interest in the program’s candid and informative approach to mental health topics.
Outside the show, Yang Se-chan has recently found himself in a difficult situation as several of his close colleagues became embroiled in controversies and announced temporary suspensions from activities. On December 5, Jo Se-ho faced criticism following allegations of associations with organized crime figures. The following day, Yang’s close friend Park Na-rae became the subject of multiple controversies, including accusations of mistreating staff and receiving illegal medical treatments from an unlicensed provider. Both entertainers issued public apologies and declared hiatuses from their activities.
Against this backdrop, Yang Se-chan’s appearance on Problem Child in House openly addressing mental health in a light yet thoughtful manner stood out as a moment of reflection amid ongoing turbulence in the Korean comedy scene.
