The story of Han Hye-kyung, infamously known as “Fan Lady,” is set to be revisited in the latest episode of SBS’s Story of the Day When You Bite Your Tail, airing on January 8. Titled “The Lost Name, Han Hye-kyung,” the episode will delve into her life, her obsession with beauty, and the devastating consequences of illegal cosmetic procedures.

Han Hye-kyung once had stunning looks and aspired to become a charismatic singer. However, driven by this ambition, she underwent repeated unlicensed cosmetic surgeries. Eventually, she began injecting substances like industrial silicone, paraffin oil, and even cooking oil directly into her own face leading to severe disfigurement, hallucinations, and psychosis.

Her story first gained national attention when it was featured on the SBS show Capture the Moment: How Is That Possible, which drew a staggering 31% viewership rating. Despite her altered appearance, few knew the deeper personal story of a woman who simply wanted to follow her dream.
Actors Kim Hee-jung, Bae Myung-jin, and film director Bang Eun-jin join the episode as listeners. Kim expressed deep sorrow, commenting, “Her life looked unbearably difficult because of the side effects.”

Han’s older sister and brother-in-law also appear in the episode to share touching memories of her efforts to pursue a singing career. MC Park So-hyun recalls her emotional support for Han during Capture the Moment: How Is That Possible, saying, “Watching her chase her lost dreams made me root for her like it was my own story.”
Though Han Hye-kyung passed away under unexplained circumstances, her legacy as a cautionary tale lives on. The episode promises to humanize the woman behind the viral nickname and shed light on the harsh realities of cosmetic surgery addiction. Story of the Day When You Bite Your Tail airs at 10:20 PM KST on SBS.
